Supporting families in the antenatal, birth and postnatal period with their baby's

Everybody has an individual idea of what type of support they will need.

Each family will have our services custom tailored just for them.

What exactly is a doula and how can they help me?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to women and their partners before, during, and after childbirth.

Emotional Support: Doulas offer continuous emotional support to pregnant mothers by being a nonjudgmental and compassionate presence. They listen to the mother's concerns, fears, and hopes, providing comfort and reassurance.

Information and Education: Doulas provide evidence-based information about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. They help the mother understand her options, potential interventions, and the pros and cons of various choices, allowing her to make informed decisions about her care.

Birth Plan Assistance: Doulas can help the mother develop a birth plan that outlines her preferences for labor and childbirth. They can also assist in communicating these preferences to the healthcare providers to ensure that the birth experience aligns as much as possible with the mother's desires.

Comfort Measures: During labor, doulas provide physical comfort measures such as suggesting different positions, providing massages, offering breathing techniques, and suggesting relaxation exercises. These techniques can help the mother manage pain and discomfort naturally.

Advocacy: Doulas advocate for the mother's wishes and preferences during labor and childbirth. They can help the mother communicate with medical staff and ensure that her voice is heard when decisions are being made.

Calming Presence: Unlike healthcare providers who you may not gel with or they come and go, doulas offer continuous support. Their presence can provide a sense of security and familiarity during the unpredictable process of labor.

Partner Support: Doulas also support the mother's partner by offering guidance on how to provide comfort and assistance during labor. This allows partners to be more engaged and helpful throughout the birth experience.

Reducing Anxiety: The presence of a doula can help reduce anxiety and stress, as the mother knows she has a dedicated support person who is familiar with the process and her preferences.

Postpartum Support: Doulas may also provide support in the postpartum period. This can include guidance on breastfeeding, newborn care, and emotional well-being as the mother transitions into her new role.

Individualized Care: Doulas tailor their support to the unique needs and preferences of each mother. They work with the mother to create a personalized approach to care that aligns with her values and goals.

It's important to note that a doula does not provide medical care or replace the role of medical professionals. Instead, they work alongside healthcare providers to ensure the best possible experience for the pregnant mother. The doula's focus is on providing emotional, physical, and informational support to enhance the mother's overall well-being during this significant life event.

Benefits of having a Doula

Reduced Cesarean Rates: Some studies indicated that the presence of a doula might be associated with a reduction in the likelihood of cesarean sections.

Reduced Use of Pain Medication: Women who had doulas often reported a reduced need for pain medication during labor and childbirth.

Shorter Labor: Research suggested that women supported by doulas might experience shorter labor durations compared to those without doula support.

Higher Satisfaction: Women who had a doula present during childbirth often reported higher levels of satisfaction with their birth experiences.

Increased Breastfeeding Rates: Doulas have been linked to higher rates of successful breastfeeding initiation and continuation.

Improved Emotional Well-being: The emotional support provided by doulas can contribute to reduced anxiety and increased overall emotional well-being during childbirth.

Increased Partner Involvement: Partners often feel more confident and involved when a doula is present, enhancing the overall support network.
